My name is Jessica Gilbert and I am an industrial design student with a minor in business at the University of Kansas—I will be graduating in May 2013. My permanent residence is in the Chicago area and am open to a relocation. My primary interest is in having exploratory conversations about a full-time position that would leverage my design, marketing and/or project management skills.
I have hands-on experience in developing new product and design concepts across a wide range of materials. My background includes the following development activities: inspiration boards, ideation sketches, orthographic and para-line drawings, perspective and 3D model rendering, building physical models, aesthetics, ergonomics, design function, packaging and market research.
During the summer of 2011, I worked as a product development intern for The Bradford Exchange (www.bradfordexchange.com), a $200M manufacturer that designs and markets a wide variety of holiday décor and collectibles (eg, coins, dolls, jewelry, plates). During that time I developed and presented my own product concepts, critiqued product sculpts and conducted market research on Bradford’s competitors. Additionally, during this past fall semester while taking a full class load, I interned for a Kansas City design firm (www.R2FACT.com), where I reviewed client specification briefs, provided critiques, developed ideation drawings and coordinated with manufacturers in Asia to create final prototypes.
I possess a great deal of computer graphic experience with the following programs: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Google SketchUp, Solid Works, Key Shot, Rhino, Word, Powerpoint and Excel. Additionally, my business classes have sensitized me to design/cost trade-offs and the importance of aligning product research and strategies with customer needs.
